"PCAGizmo" NDIS OID Tracing Tool

Overview

The "PCAGizmo" software consists of NDIS filter drivers and a companion Win32 console application that work together to log NDIS OID requests and NDIS status indications as they are passed between NDIS miniport, filter and protocol drivers. The PCAGizmo architecture is illustrated in the diagram below.

PCAGizmo Software Components

bulletNDISMon - NDISMon.exe, a Win32 console application, is used to fetch log information from the companion NDIS filter drivers.

bulletWindows Vista Drivers - PCAGizmo6.sys, a NDIS 6 Lightweight Filter (LWF) monitoring driver, is used to log NDIS operations on Windows Vista.

By the nature of a NDIS 6 LWF monitoring driver, it can be installed above and below other NDIS components. The illustration shows that PCAGizmo6 can log operations both above and below the Windows system Native 802.11 LAN Emulation/Management driver.

bulletWindows XP and Server 2003 Drivers - PCAGizmo5.sys, a NDIS 5 Intermediate (IM) filter driver, is used to log NDIS operations.
